On top of that, homes tend to dry out more once the heating season starts, which dust mites and dust actually thrive on. Washing your bedding right before you start using it every night matters most for allergies and overall cleanliness at home.
What you can’t wash at home
Large duvets (especially down or feather ones) often don’t fit properly in a home washing machine, or don’t wash evenly – parts stay under-rinsed, and the feathers can clump together. The same goes for large bedspreads or blankets for two. Professional washing can handle bulkier items without damaging the material, keeping the down nice and fluffy.

A tip for the start of the heating season
If you deal with dust allergies at home, it’s also worth considering washing your curtains along with duvets and blankets – they soak up just as much dust from the air over summer, we just tend to notice it less. You’ll find curtains in the same household category in our price list.
